Best Places to Meet Quality Women

It seems a bit on the ironic side that a single male who is spending his Sunday morning alone at a coffee shop should be discussing the best places to meet quality women for the glimmer of a chance at relationship utopia. Irony aside, my years of unsuccessful wisdom has taught me a number of things including how places, patterns of behavior, ideals, morals, personal convictions and personal interests can all be identified by choices in places resided.

So at this point we can eliminate Church’s Chicken, Pizza Hut, Wal-Mart, prison, rehabilitation centers (maybe not entirely), mud wresting tournaments and race tracks as possible options for meeting your next partner.

Understanding the culture of an establishment will help you make an educated assessment on the type of person who choses to be there. The choice in food, entertainment or exercise is a lifestyle choice so that needs to be a critical element in your decision to seek out a potential mate.

This list is not compiled through a statistical study and thus there is no formal ranking system outlined below.

Lowe’s / Home Depot

We have evolved into a society who has made tremendous strides in gender equality. The strength of an independent woman who can create, fix and enhance their residence is a very attractive quality that should never be overlooked. If you visit your local Home Depot or Lowe’s you will find amazing women who are looking to do home improvement, building, painting, construction or aesthetic enhancements to the home. If you are a strong willed man that values a woman who can go toe to toe with you; one that knows her way around a power tool; and one that can live a vivacious life of independence and success, this may want to be a regular scheduled stop in your pursuit of the perfect mate. Of course, if she is alone or with other female friends, you need to keep an eye out for the big indicator: the ring. We don’t want to encourage the notion of breaking up marriages. We are a family friendly blog.

Whole Foods / Trader Joe’s

These two grocers have built a culture around being environmentally sensitive, organic and health conscious, and promoting mental/physical fitness. You are not going to find many lazy, lethargic or sloppy women here. On a given day, you will observe matching running outfits, professional business women or earthly/flowery sundresses. If you want to impress, don’t go in, buy beer and chips unless it is a good craft micro brew and organic veggie chips. These establishments breed women that care about the environment and wellness. So, gentlemen, if you chose to take on this challenge, bring your own re-usable bags and water bottle, dress neatly, and don’t be afraid to show a little of your rugged side.

Dog Parks

Dog lovers are creatures of habit. They love their dogs as if they are children and treat them with the same caring nature. A dog lover can make an excellent mate but make no mistake, you will most likely be number two in their world. The key to being successful at a dog park is to modify the behavior of your target. When you see her, schedule your dog park time the same as hers and feel each other out for a few days (of course it should be obvious that you have a dog as well). Each day, give your pup a pep talk about flirting with her dog. If the dogs work out, you are in like Flynn. If that does not work and the dogs become rival enemies, this will present a whole new set of challenges and often one you cannot overcome. Make sure when you first start talking to each other (humans), be very complimentary about her dog, ask its name, how old, and mention how good the two of them look together. When you tell a mother how adorable she is with her child, it is like melting butter on a warm slice of toast. This approach will take patience. It may be a week or two before the idea of an off site puppy date is brought up or better yet a puppy date at her place over dinner. If you get that approved, bring some good wine because you have a really good chance with this one.

Beaches

I hesitated to put beaches on this list. Beaches offer a sand to sand endless pool of possibility. Sun, fun, flirting and a even a little drinking perhaps. In hindsight, all of this invites more an opportunity for a short term fling than a long term relationship, but if you are a little vain and believe in looks above and beyond everything else, then you may meet that perfect mate. Here is where the hesitation comes into play: focus. Obviously, the women will be wearing the bear minimum of clothing and men tend to focus on certain regions. When the chance occurs to strike up a conversation (say after you mistakenly throw the football by a group of girls), the likelihood is that you will not be focused on her eyes. You need to train yourself prior to a beach day if you have any chance of success.

Coffee Shops (Independent)

I am not by any means disrespecting Panera, Starbucks or Caribou. In fact, I met one of the most amazing women I have ever known in my life at a Caribou. This is targeted for those with a lifestyle around arts, creativity, music and personal/spiritual enlightenment. For all the poets, musicians, painters and true “artists”, the independent coffee shop could be your haven for love. Be specific and do your research. Each establishment has a life of its own and a culture it breeds. Find out what type of music they play, the backgrounds of the owners, the art on the walls and chose wisely. Choosing the right coffee shop is almost as important as the right home.

Book Stores

Intellectuals are stable, intelligent, philosophical, insightful and frisky. When you think about librarians, book sellers, teachers or professors, you think proper. My experience has shown and certainly not true for all is that all that pent up proper behavior has to be released somehow. Believe me, in very adventurous and experimental ways. If you want an intelligent wild cat, this might be a good place to start your search. If you do, don’t pick a cliche book to read; be original and make it an extension of yourself.

Gym / Fitness Center

If physical fitness is your game, this is an easy choice, but know how to read the signs. Typically working out is either a couple or individual activity. If a girl is by herself know what to look for. If she is wearing a hat, leave her alone. She is driven and has a goal in mind. You interrupting her is not in the plan. Again, look for the ring. That is vital as well. If you spot a girl you would like to know better, follow her routine for a few minutes (cardio, weights, stretching..) and try to find a good place to slip in a casual meeting. In this day of IPods, it can be harder than you think. Adjacent treadmills or bikes is a great starting point. It is an extended activity and gives plenty of time to see if eye contact is made. Remember, girls at the gym want a confident man that is not afraid to step up to bat.

Yes, bars and clubs are so yesterday and online dating….time will tell.

There you have it. Not Men’s Journal. Not GQ but Recruiterpoet’s Guide to Where to Meet Quality Women.

To all the men, good luck. Even with all the tips in the world, women are tricky, but they are genuinely amazing creatures with beauty, intelligence and warmth. If you are lucky enough to find the one that warms your soul and has you yearning for more each and every day, you need to hold on, embrace and cherish it for the rest of your life.

The Disturbance – Original Poem

There is a disturbance in the air.
One we cannot see; life we cannot breathe

We bow to the spirits hidden safely behind the stars that shine in the abyss of the eternal playground
It is in the anguish of fear that paranoia puts the soul to rest

In the screaming of the intense silence, we hear the voice of reason reflecting on the misery rotting in our minds.

Closing the vision, the iris burns
Surrounded by a fire that does not burn; a bullet that does not wound

It is an invisible force, so powerful; it pierces the essence of innocence and catapults all emotion to the edge of reality

How can such intensity provide a bed of restful comfort we rationalize to no avail?

With a hint of iridescence, the warmth of the sun illuminates the darkness and an echo of a new tomorrow is written in the clouds

With the pen of prophets and the calligraphy of angels, we read the words in anticipation…

Top Female Rock Stars in Film

The idea of the female dominate star in cinema is rare in its own right but the utilization of a female lead singer in a rock band has hidden itself so well from Hollywood. The power to influence others with music and lyrics and send a powerful message of independence and prowess can have such an rescinating affect on the empowerment of young girls and woman.

We thought we would take a moment to reflect on some of the actresses and characters that have used the power of film to show how a strong female presence can make a difference. With ambition and courage, one voice can impact many and one dream and set the path to greatness.

This is a tribute to some of the great performances that has combined music, power and influence to not only make a defined statement, but to get you on your feet cheering.

1. Ellen Aim (Diane Lane) – Streets of Fire (1984)

I would be lying if I said this wasn’t the first moment I fell in love with Diane Lane. This is also one of the first examples of transferring the comic book or graphic novel genre into film. With the likes of Willem Defoe, Rick Moranis, and Michael Pare, Streets of Fire created a Rock and Roll Fable that electrified the audience and left you wanting more. A simple tale of girl loves boy, boy leaves girl, girl becomes star, girl gets kidnapped, boy rescues girl, boy leaves and follows the sun to the next adventure and girl reflects on her one true love. If you love music, adventure and romance, this is one story that will not disappoint.

2. Beverly Switzler (Lea Thompson) – Howard The Duck (1986)

Many have criticized this as one of the worst DC Comic adaptations ever created. Whether you are a fan of Howard the Duck or not, there is no mistaking that Lea Thompson took hard edged rock and beauty to another level. Here character had a soft sensuality and an sharp appeal whether she was on or off the stage. You may love Howard the Duck or feel completely let down, but this strange tale is worth its weight in gold to see Lea Thompson’s Beverly Switzler light up the stage.

3. Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) – The Runaways (2010)

Stepping into the feet of a living legend is a very difficult task to under take. For Kristen Stewart, who has taken professionals risks most of her career, this was big leap. Along with Dakota Fanning, Kristen took on the role of Joan Jett during the early years of her rise as the leader of the Runaways, one of the first pure female punk bands. With confidence and integrity, Kristen transformed herself into Joan not just in appearance but in her movements, emotions and convictions. This film is a nice reflection on the life of the woman that helped shaped the face of music, but also a remarkable portrayal by Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett.

4. Josie (Rachel Leigh Cook) – Josie and the Pussycats (2001)

What can you say about Josie and the Pussycats. Girls everywhere loved Josie, the band and all their antics. The film may not fall under the category of legendary. Maybe campy is the best term to use but there is no question, it was a little fun. In the spirit of the Monkees and Scooby-Doo, Josie and the Pussycats took on music and adventure in this light-hearted comedy. Rachel Leigh Cook with her short heart, beautiful eyes and let loose style took on the role with flare and style.

5. Mary Rose Foster (Bette Midler) – The Rose (1979)

Bette Midler has style.
Bette Midler has spunk.
Bette Midler has attitude.

In her infamous role as Mary Rose Foster, Bette Midler rolled it all up into great performance from start to finish. It wasn’t a stretch for her, but she poured out the fullest extend of her emotions in this film and left herself be vulnerable to her audience. That is rare in film and truly a treat for those that were able to bear witness.

6. Cassandra Wong (Tia Carrera) – Cassandra and the Crucial Taunt – Wayne’s World (1992)

Wayne’s World, Wayne’s World! Party Time! Excellent
What can you say about a three minute recurring skirt converted into a major motion picture…Excellent!
But every great basement dwelling buddy movie needs a great kick butt rock goddess with bangs. Thus enters Cassandra Wong, a.k.a. Tia Carrera. Playing the love interest of Wayne, Cassandra does not stray from the fact that though she is a lover, she is still and always will be a rocker!

7. Tina Turner (Angela Bassett) – What’s Love Got to Do With It (1993)

Tina Turner is a legend, not only for her musical career, but for the courage she has possessed throughout her personal and professional life. She has overcome so much adversity to become the role model that she has become that it was only fitting that a bio pic was developed to honor her. Angela Bassett, with her guns and powerful on screen presence presented an honorable treat playing the great Tina Turner. You saw a woman of power and vulnerability fighting for her dreams and finding the path to success. What an amazing performance.

8. Dolly Read (Kelly MacNamara) – The Kelly Affair – Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970)

Russ Meyer, the king of film exploitation. Should you expect anything else from this legendary film maker. He continued his formula in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls creating the band The Kelly Affair led by Dolly Read. Was the band defined as pure rock. Perhaps not but they could bring boys to their knees. As most Russ Meyer films, always a treat to watch.

Half Of Young Professionals Value Facebook Access, Smartphone Options Over Salary

Half Of Young Professionals Value Facebook Access, Smartphone Options Over Salary: Report

By: Austin Carr

For a whole new generation of tech-savvy young professionals, having access to social media or the right smartphone in the workplace is at times more important than earning a higher salary. For businesses, that means adapting to this change in priorities rather than resisting it–if the Mad Men-era job force expected noon whiskeys and female secretaries, then our modern-day equivalent demands Facebook and iPhones.

The findings come thanks to Cisco’s second annual Connected World Technology Report, a study released today that says attracting and maintaining Millennial talent takes more than the number of zeroes attached to a weekly paycheck. The company surveyed 1,400 college students aged 18 to 23 and 1,400 young professionals under the age of 30 across 14 countries. HR and IT managers take note: “The growing use of the Internet and mobile devices in the workplace is creating a significant impact on job decisions, hiring and work-life balance,” the report concluded. “The ability to use social media, mobile devices, and the Internet more freely in the workplace is strong enough to influence job choice, sometimes more than salary.”

Cisco’s findings are telling of a generation that’s been glued to LCD screens and wired to social networks from an early age. According to the report, 40% of college students and 45% of young professionals would accept lower-paying jobs if they had more access to social media, more choice in the devices they could use at work, and more flexibility in working remotely. More than half of the college students surveyed indicated that if an employer banned access to networks like Facebook at work, “they would either not accept a job offer from them or would join and find a way to circumvent.”

This technology addiction represents a major opportunity for employers looking to add to their bottom lines while recruiting top talent. For just a few simple workplace concessions (say, allowing employees to choose an iPhone over a BlackBerry, and opening up access to social networks), recruits could be more likely to accept job offers–and at a lower salary. One in four college students, according to the report, said issues like these–while likely baffling to older generations–would represent key factors in their decision to accept a job offer. (To demonstrate just how obsessed Millennials are with their precious tech, Cisco also discovered that more than half of respondents said they’d rather lose their wallets or purses before losing their smartphones or mobile devices.)

At Cisco, the company is exploring internal opportunities to take advantage of the report’s findings, which continue to show an increased melding between one’s professional and personal life. Employees more and more show an interest in working from home, using a work-issued mobile device for personal purposes, and connect to social networks while on the job. (There’s a reason why services such as Yammer, the enterprise version of Facebook, are becoming so popular.) In fact, seven out of 10 college students said company-issued devices should be allowed for personal use. That’s why Cisco, for example, is internally testing what’s called BYOD, or Bring Your Own Device, meaning employees can come to work with whatever technology they prefer–be it an Android smartphone, an iPad, or a Windows-based laptop.

If that’s what it takes to recruit top talent these days–especially at a potentially lower price–how can you complain?
