We Forgot About the Importance of the Words

words

The art of the written word. It is romantic, real, historically significant and most importantly it has the magical ability to take us to another place.

One minute we are pirates on the high seas and the next we are flying over the clouds looking down on the beauty of our planet. Words have the power to transform, capture deep emotions and give us the courage to achieve our goals.

Writers play a very significant role in our lives.

Writers are:

  • Novelists
  • Poets
  • Screenwriters
  • Songwriters
  • Educators
  • Playwrights

Most importantly they express feelings from the heart.  It is in the words that pour out not from the pen but from the mind that open us up to the vulnerabilities of expressive insight.

A writer sees and feels the world around.  Writers have a purpose and a gift to narrate, interpret, document and open us up to what we are afraid to feel ourselves.

I do not believe words are dead.  That is an extreme, but in the direction we are heading, the importance of them may be lost in this dark jungle.

With technology giving all of us the ability to pour our hearts out in characters through text, tweets, instant message and email, we no longer are vulnerable to the letting our hearts speak for us and suffering the pain of love gained and lost.

I think the greatest feeling in life is getting hurt.  That sounds like a strange statement to be hearing, but I speak the truth.  Love, friendship, family and true connection are very rare in a lifetime so believing every interaction will be positive is just a silly juvenile thought.  We need to get pierced and bleed to find the truth essence and purity of happiness.

We are human.  As humans we feel, both good and bad.  It is important to experience extremes of happiness, sadness, pain and euphoria.

When did we start to hide from it?

We hide behind our mobiles, tablets and laptops.

I have experienced people that:

  • Break up by text
  • Pour their heart out in a status update
  • Feel levels of depression and express it with a tweet

I cannot change human behavior with just my words.

I don’t even want to take on that role.  I want to believe that we can once again feel.  I know every chance I get, I am going to hug a little harder, kiss a little deeper and express myself with all my heart has to give.

Even if many are turning their lives into a one sentence update, I won’t ever take that path.

For those that know me or want to know me, I am very happy and I will continue to be a hopeless romantic realist that will jump off the cliff and hope I land on my feet.

A Letter of Thanks

In a day and age where all thoughts, emotions and testimonials can be summed up into a text, it becomes ever so important to express my deep and warm gratitude to those individuals with the imagination, admiration and love to give of themselves each and every day.

As I reflect on the last year, it has been filled with personal tragedy and struggle. Nights of unanswered questions, lives lost well before their time and obstructions in the path of life.

From tears heard across another continent, to new lives being welcomed into the world, to parents watching their children laid to rest, to disaster ripping families from their homes; I have spent many a long quiet evening in a meditative state trying to piece this puzzle of life together.

Each time, I draw the same conclusion: It is in the outstretched arms of those that have continuously put others ahead of themselves, who have greeted every challenge with passion and hope and been that shoulder to lean on that I need to personally thank. Not due to a holiday or an end of the year need to repent, but because they are the foundation of this wall that provides me shelter from the storm and fuels my drive.

I thank you

  • I thank you for being patient with me when I had to make many sacrifices to be by the bedside of a dying friend.
  • I thank you for emotionally being by my side and relying on me even though an ocean separated us
  • I thank you for allowing me to bear witness to your life changing events
  • To those that called, emailed or sent a picture or cute message at the most opportune time when I really needed it, I am eternally grateful
  • I am not perfect, a scholar or always a gentleman.  I have flaws and for the few that understand and accept me, words do not say enough about how important you are in my life
  • Some have been unconditionally supportive to me through my writing, my vision on life, my creative ups and downs and for that I bow to you
  • To you, the one that finds inspiration in my writing and acts upon it with a closer hug, a warm message of love, a charitable act or seeing life with a little more happiness, you are my reason for living

Sometimes, I lie out on the beach or an open field gazing upon the stars vast in the sky that reach infinitely through the cosmos. Right at the moment it begins to sink in how small we are in the scheme of the universe, memories rush through my head.  Good refreshing memories that put a smile on my face.  They are visual images of times I have spent with you; all of you.  Each person that is important in my life has an equal piece of my heart and as you have and continue to shape who I am, I hope my actions and my words help you understand how you have given me all a man could ask for.

To my family and friends, your love continues to give me strength and energy.  Thank you.

Waste of War – Original Poem

Why must blood be spilled on this holy ground
The selfless hatred
Greed overpowering the simplicity of love

Lives lost for a greater good never defined by the virtues of humanity

Thousands of years of the ideals of harmony buried in the past with questions remaining

Generation after generation; sacrifices made
Brothers lost
Husbands perishing in the flames of strife
Children never to see through the eyes of an adult

It is a web of deception written by men of power using the blood of boys cemented by the tears of mothers

We are pawns in the game of life
Victims in a race with no finish line

We scream for unity, yet we are all deaf
Praying for an end when no one knows where it all began

Born of innocence
Raised into sin
Dying in regret

When will the warmth of a hug melt away the fear of the weapon?

It is in these words I declare a release of my inner demons and imagine a world not far from my own

A world overcome by the tenderness of adornment and weak to the touch of a gentle kiss

Now in a moment of silence, I close my eyes and dream

If I’d Known – Original Poem

If I’d known that was the last time I would touch those soft sensual wet lips or get lost deep in your eyes…

If that moment when I said I loved you were our last would it change a thing?

I still feel you every morning
The brush of the wind; your breath
The warmth of the sun; your angelic glow
The smell of the linens; the nectar of your skin

I dream about you each time I open my eyes
Your voice is in the song of the birds
Your heart beats next to mine until my last breath

If I’d known I would not wake another morning with you by my side, I would be lost
Lost with no direction

You gave me vision for a better tomorrow; promise of a new beginning

I took for granted your touch
I accepted your generosity without compromise
I welcomed you into the hidden corridor of my soul

You captured me and locked me away in this prison of eternal happiness.

If I’d known you would be gone would I sacrifice my life for you?

As I look in the mirror, beyond my skin, beyond my soul and in the trenches of places we never see that control our every emotion, I say yes

If I’d known this was our last goodbye, I would hold so close the pain and love would become one.

I didn’t know

Now I cry, not for my loss but tears of happiness for all you have given me.

A Love for All Time – To Season and Webb (Original Poem)

In a heartbeat the seasons changed
As quickly as a gust of wind tempting the morning dew

Lost in a field of uncertainty
No direction home
No memory of past love, but an empty glass filled with hope

Running to the light of a new world, her dreams now within reach, she stumbles into a web of enchantment

Tangled and confused, she soon feels the warmth of its touch, the strength of its hold, the security of its protection

As the web wraps itself around her gentle skin she knows she found the home longed for in the dreams of every young princess

A prince arrives without warning to lift her to the clouds and welcome her to the heavens of eternal bliss

Once a young fragile bird with weak wings now a beautiful eagle soaring
With her guardian angel and partner by her side, they fly

Fly higher than life
Fly further than the stars and welcome each day together as a foundation for the infinite love they feel

For Season and Michael are now a symbol of truth
The truth that when two souls collide led by destiny, the explosion is a million points of light that all lead to love

In this devotion, we are all blessed with a piece of this affection carried into our hearts by the soft breeze off the oceanfront

This is Romance

Romance comes in many different forms.
Some through small gestures and others in unexpected surprises.
It rarely takes more than a few words, a hug, a kiss or a look to reveal the truest form of romance and affection.

Perhaps because it doesn’t happen often enough, but in that moment, time stops briefly and a spiritual enlightenment fills you soul with the warm juices of contentment.

Isn’t that what life is about, contentment and love.
Knowing and experiencing those that bring you to the height of acceptance is what we live for each and every day.

We don’t need to wait for miracles or wait for something special to happen.
All we need to do is focus on those that care about us and embrace those rare moments of romance.

Picture this:

You come home after an extended trip, feeling under the weather and warn out.
You sift through the mail to find a hand written envelope from another country and inside a simple white card with these words:

You have no idea how you still affect me.
One email from you and my heart makes a little jump.
I guess this will be forever so.
I know know I have no claims on you, but what I wouldn’t give for one more day/night with you.
Thank you for being who you are.
Talk to you soon. I mean it.
Big hug to you, wonderful man.

This is unconditional eternal love.
Think about it.
A few words
A flower
A picnic
A kiss on the cheek
A warm bath

It doesn’t take more than a gesture to remind someone that you love them.

Weakness of Love – Original Poem

There is a truth in your eyes that tells me you will always protect me from the storm
The closer you hold me, the more freedom I feel
I can comprehend from your unspoken words, the feelings you hold in your heart

I am bestowed with a blessing
Not in words nor actions
Not in the premeditated journey written in the sand script of my mind

But with a kiss and a stare
You penetrate deep into the corners of the most protected layers of this fragile soul
Without knowing it, I have given you my life
With one mighty release, I am thrust into your arms
Reality is suspended; time has stop and eternity has set a course for the unknown

It is in this now we become a power higher than ourselves
This completeness can only become fulfillment when the greatest weapon of the angels is exploited; unconditional love

In the now, I breathe your air
I walk in your shadow
I bleed pain when you ache

In the now, your inner beauty overtakes this external facade
Your soft skin, radiant eyes and gentle lips are but a disguise to ward off the weak and invite the pure

I am now powerless but grabbing the spirit of a thousand horses
My heart stronger than steel; my body gentle as a warm autumn breeze

In this final release, I walk to you barefoot and exposed

Are Dogs the Owners of Humans?

It dawned on my recently that perhaps us humans have a very inverted perspective on the relationship between man and canine. I suspended reality for a moment and put myself in the shoes or space flip flops of an alien and observed from a distance the daily rituals of the man/woman and dog. The dog walks, we follow. The dog poops, we pick it up. The dog gets hungry, we feed it. The dog is tired, they take the bed, couch or where ever they want. Hmmm, so who owns who?

Let’s break this down and see if we can come up with a logical answer:

1. During a given day, a dog with run, eat, drink, sleep, lounge, bark, cuddle, stick its head out the window and play with other dogs. A human will get up way too early, eat a rushed meal, worked way too hard for little pay, run errands, pay bills, maybe sneak in a beer or two and pass out weak and weary. Judges: 1 – 0 Dogs

2. When a dog has to go, they don’t have to wait on any lines, seek out a rest room or even wash their hands afterward. Even if they try to cover it up with their hind legs, they know their human will be there to pick up the waste. There is another one for the dog.

3. Humans have to court a girl with a courageous opening line, a well planned out and many times expensive dinner and then fingers crossed they get a goodnight kiss. A male dog walks up to female and does the deed. 3 – 0 Dogs.

4. Here is one victory for us humans…We live a lot longer.

5. Everyone wants to pet a dog, rub its belly and give great big warm hugs. Humans, not so much.

6. Dogs always get doggie treats. Humans only get to eat treats until their metabolism starts to slow down and then only on special occasions.

7. The leash. I think this is a plot by the canine community to give us humans the impression that we still have some control. I don’t know that they even need it.

8. Dogs can be naked all the time. Except Halloween when we feel the urge to dress them up in the most embarrassing thing ever. In most places society still shuns on that for humans.

9. Dogs can fall asleep anywhere. I mean anywhere.

10. Dogs are lovers not fighters. Even when they play fight, love always wins at the end. We could learn a lesson from that.

11. Dogs will always be by your side. Not matter what you do, they forgive and remain loyal. Again, something we could learn from.

12. Humans have to bathe every day. At least society puts pressure on us to. Dogs bathe about every week or two.

13. Dogs are so cool, they usually only need one name.

I think it is clear, dogs may be more superior than humans.

One thing is certain, the partnership between humans and canines is very special and one that should never be taken advantage of.

To man’s best friend, we salute you, love you and will always be by your side.

Taylor – Original Poem

Her spirit is seen glowing through her daughters eyes

A mother
A daughter
A student of the world

Riding the waves of life and searching for a love that has not founds its way to her celestial point of rest

Distance is the force driving them together; keeping them apart

Each day alone, manifesting the dream of being in each others arms
Under the same blue sky but hundreds of miles of fields serve as the barrier to this affair of the heart

The odyssey of two gypsies, guided by the movement of the sun and the map of the stars, set out for home

On the edge of the harbor without direction; without purpose but endurance to fight toward the light at the end of the darkness

Abandoned by the misfortune of a thorn, she must choose a new path
One mistake, now a blessing
The cry of a newborn now the prayer of a promise land

As the legs get heavier and the heat soaks through the pores. a mirage forms
Reaching out it gets further with each step closer
She hears the lullaby that rocks her baby to sleep and her fears away

It is the voice of her lost love
Never seen through her tired eyes
Never felt with her weak hands
But the feeling of completeness is felt like a vice

Vindication in a sea of resistance
All is at peace with the eternal being and two hearts mended now to complete the journey of life together as one

Goodbye Blue Eyes – Original Poem

You wane away in the distance blending into the backdrop of the setting sun
Goodbye blue eyes
Penetrating my soul and leaving behind a mystery

This aching I cannot hide
This pain is the only memory of your love
With a thousand pierces, knives open the wounds and bleed out the reminders of a brief moment of perfection

Goodbye blue eyes
Volumes spoken without a word uttered
Feelings shared without human touch
Lives changed forever and forever I am your slave

The sky and ground now one and you no more
Gone; not turning back
With fondness, I witness the decline of the sun and as the night sky fills the air, a cinema of pictures of you form on the Imax of the universe

I smile with each passing image
Your beauty and soft caress
The expressive laughter and heartfelt tears

As an audience of one I am taken away to another time
A period of innocence lost to the fury of today

I will miss your blue eyes but rest each night as you spirit will always be by my side
