Fragile Flower – Original Poem Dedicated to Kristen

kristen3

A fragile flower in the wind
Holding on as the summer breeze whispers across the prairie
Young and innocent
Alive and full of grace

A flower with wings to fly among the birds
A flower with legs as graceful as a ballerina
A flower with spirit to warm the hearts of those she touched

Releasing the energy of the sun with a rainbow of colors from her blossoming petals

Awakened to a life she will never know
Taken too soon by the cruelty of the eternal gatekeepers

A flower loved by all
Her fragrance was one of a young princess running through the fields of life with promise on the horizon

She would climb the hills to bask in the warm summer sun but tumble to an end no one foresaw

In the end, the importance of life is seen
With every sunrise she provides us compassion
With every sunset the beauty of another day passed

She captured the zest of a thousand children laughing
Her cherubic smile was an infection that spread like a virus

Memories now flash by
Each day a new reminder of what might have been

Reflect on this

Each day she lived was a day complete
Each thought, each tear, each laugh, she is near

We Forgot About the Importance of the Words

words

The art of the written word. It is romantic, real, historically significant and most importantly it has the magical ability to take us to another place.

One minute we are pirates on the high seas and the next we are flying over the clouds looking down on the beauty of our planet. Words have the power to transform, capture deep emotions and give us the courage to achieve our goals.

Writers play a very significant role in our lives.

Writers are:

  • Novelists
  • Poets
  • Screenwriters
  • Songwriters
  • Educators
  • Playwrights

Most importantly they express feelings from the heart.  It is in the words that pour out not from the pen but from the mind that open us up to the vulnerabilities of expressive insight.

words2

A writer sees and feels the world around.  Writers have a purpose and a gift to narrate, interpret, document and open us up to what we are afraid to feel ourselves.

I do not believe words are dead.  That is an extreme, but in the direction we are heading, the importance of them may be lost in this dark jungle.

With technology giving all of us the ability to pour our hearts out in characters through text, tweets, instant message and email, we no longer are vulnerable to the letting our hearts speak for us and suffering the pain of love gained and lost.

I think the greatest feeling in life is getting hurt.  That sounds like a strange statement to be hearing, but I speak the truth.  Love, friendship, family and true connection are very rare in a lifetime so believing every interaction will be positive is just a silly juvenile thought.  We need to get pierced and bleed to find the truth essence and purity of happiness.

We are human.  As humans we feel, both good and bad.  It is important to experience extremes of happiness, sadness, pain and euphoria.

words3

When did we start to hide from it?

We hide behind our mobiles, tablets and laptops.

I have experienced people that:

  • Break up by text
  • Pour their heart out in a status update
  • Feel levels of depression and express it with a tweet

I cannot change human behavior with just my words.

I don’t even want to take on that role.  I want to believe that we can once again feel.  I know every chance I get, I am going to hug a little harder, kiss a little deeper and express myself with all my heart has to give.

Even if many are turning their lives into a one sentence update, I won’t ever take that path.

For those that know me or want to know me, I am very happy and I will continue to be a hopeless romantic realist that will jump off the cliff and hope I land on my feet.

Waste of War – Original Poem

Why must blood be spilled on this holy ground
The selfless hatred
Greed overpowering the simplicity of love

Lives lost for a greater good never defined by the virtues of humanity

Thousands of years of the ideals of harmony buried in the past with questions remaining

Generation after generation; sacrifices made
Brothers lost
Husbands perishing in the flames of strife
Children never to see through the eyes of an adult

It is a web of deception written by men of power using the blood of boys cemented by the tears of mothers

We are pawns in the game of life
Victims in a race with no finish line

We scream for unity, yet we are all deaf
Praying for an end when no one knows where it all began

Born of innocence
Raised into sin
Dying in regret

When will the warmth of a hug melt away the fear of the weapon?

It is in these words I declare a release of my inner demons and imagine a world not far from my own

A world overcome by the tenderness of adornment and weak to the touch of a gentle kiss

Now in a moment of silence, I close my eyes and dream

Free Fall – Original Poem

Picture it
Four miles above the Earth’s surface
Between the sun and the curve of the Earth, your existence comes into perspective
Moments away from freefall
Faster than sound; out of control

Every memory from womb to death rushes through your head like a lightning storm of adrenaline

Blood rushing to your brain
You feel alive; so alive
The most pure feeling; mind, body and soul as one

Alone with the whole world looking up
Closer to the surface and reality

This surreal epic journey about to climax
You will hit the surface with life and death flipping a coin to see who wins the prize

It is so clear in the blindness of your fall
This is judgment day; the ultimate decision; the infinite risk

Speed picks up
All control diminished
All feeling gone
I cannot explain this

As you reach the moment where you are in absolute absence and only the forces defined by biblical words know your fate, it becomes a fairy tale of wisdom and horror

We have reached the end
Ground grows closer
The impact will hit soon
It all comes down to this moment

If I’d Known – Original Poem

If I’d known that was the last time I would touch those soft sensual wet lips or get lost deep in your eyes…

If that moment when I said I loved you were our last would it change a thing?

I still feel you every morning
The brush of the wind; your breath
The warmth of the sun; your angelic glow
The smell of the linens; the nectar of your skin

I dream about you each time I open my eyes
Your voice is in the song of the birds
Your heart beats next to mine until my last breath

If I’d known I would not wake another morning with you by my side, I would be lost
Lost with no direction

You gave me vision for a better tomorrow; promise of a new beginning

I took for granted your touch
I accepted your generosity without compromise
I welcomed you into the hidden corridor of my soul

You captured me and locked me away in this prison of eternal happiness.

If I’d known you would be gone would I sacrifice my life for you?

As I look in the mirror, beyond my skin, beyond my soul and in the trenches of places we never see that control our every emotion, I say yes

If I’d known this was our last goodbye, I would hold so close the pain and love would become one.

I didn’t know

Now I cry, not for my loss but tears of happiness for all you have given me.

Jersey Strong – Original Poem

In the blink of an eye our world changed
Winds of change took away our homes, our memories, our keepsakes

White picket fences and the American dream destroyed in an apocalyptic rage

From the pits of hell, a path of desolation and havoc cleared brought us to tears

With the strength of a thousand horses, we were brought to our knees
Praying to voices above in hopes the clouds would part to open up its arms to a new day

Wandering the streets looking for answers

Devastation a word without definition
Searching for answers under the rubble

A vision of a war zone in the land of the free
We raised our arms to the sky with strength and unity

Jersey Strong in our hearts
Jersey Strong our will to survive
Jersey Strong the power to rebuild

In the darkest hour, a light began to shine through
Walking out of the muck and mud we began to cleanse our soul and fill our hearts with the love of the brotherhood of man

Kindred neighbors close and far have united to form a wall of fortitude with one message, “We will rise again”

One nail at a time
Lending one hand; a reassuring smile; a hug
A promise of a better tomorrow

Jersey Strong
One family, one mission, a commitment, a goal

Depression is only the beginning – Original Poem

Alone
Faint
Dormant
Abandoned

Depression is a term reserved for those that seek help

Insanity is the deafening silence ringing in my ears
No one to turn too
Friends are distant; friends are near; friends are nowhere

Each moment, a thousand years
Each breath, closer to my last

I swallow the last remaining call for hope
We are at the epicenter of a black hole swallowing us at speeds faster than light

Imprisoned on these tracks
Trains coming from both directions
So slow
I will them closer
Anticipation only makes it worse
When?
When?
When?

Back to this dark room of covered in black
An irony of poetic justice
I hear the voice
I sense the feel but know I no longer have that ability
There is no strength in my muscles
These bones are now pillars of sand

Never before has the end seemed so tempting
Like the rich nectar of fruit forbidden from this dead palate
I want to taste the emptiness of death
I want it to swallow me whole and release me from this cage

Is it time?
The ticks of the clock are so loud now
Like a thousand screaming birds piercing my eardrum
Make it all stop
Make the pain subside

I pray to this deserted vacuum called humanity

Never has a word been uttered back
Never has a glimmer of happiness landed on this defeated lap

You Saved My Life – Original Poem

You saved me life
More than once

In a moment of weakness; a juncture of despair you found your way into my heart

I am flawed
Filled with uncertainty and moral unrest
I am not perfect
But I try
I give myself for what I can and fight for good

It is a battle full of risk
Choices to be made
Mistakes to be forgiven

I have been lost
Deep in the forest with no direction home
Darkness served as enemy and guiding light
In the underbelly of depression, answers were found
It was when I was trapped that the steel chains could be broken
I found a way back to you

You saved me
With your kindness, you soothed this beast
Serenity in bliss
Soothing undisturbed and pure

You saved me
With wit, charm and charisma

You saved me
You cannot hear me now
You cannot see me now
Forever you will feel me

With unconditional love, I thank you.
In the compassionate belly of my existence, you will rest

Never Forgotten – Original Poem

I have seen the bliss of the sun and the fiery pits of hell
I looked all around for a familiar voice; a friend; an embrace of life’s salvation
In a moment of complete darkness, I looked to the light for answers
It was then that the darkness would fade to emptiness

Years would pass
Without hope
Without answers
Without the truth

The stars brought isolated moments of peace
The quiet breeze sent signs of hope
The cold morning freeze stopped the pain

Still time continued as this lonely path converted from a mission to empty steps

In the bottle amnesia would serve as temporary comfort
Chasing away the nightmares
Sleep was within grasp
Behind me, years have passed with no memories

Today I awaken to the same haunting past
Where tomorrow leads, I do not know
I am still fighting my demons, aching for resolution

I can only remember now
Never to forget
A life once led, not carried forward with my words and actions

I miss you

A Fantasy of Glee – Original Poem

I watch as the sun dances across your face
A cherub dancing in the fields showering the flowers with glitter

With a shadow mimicing a harmony of steps, two dance under the cleverly composed diction of the orchestra of clouds

Swept away in the moment
Drawn to the fire
Released to the guidance of the spirit of freedom

From the caves
Across the mountains
Out from the desserts
In the forests

The majestry of wildlife rejoice in the sounds
Absorbed into the sweet nectar of life’s soundtrack they find solace and joy

All together in an extravaganza of the mind
A rainbow of elation
A spectrum merriment

From the corners of the earth, all war seizes, all prejudice dissolved, all hate buried

In a single universal moment of peace, we are one
One world, one vision, one harmonious existance
