Fragile Flower – Original Poem Dedicated to Kristen

kristen3

A fragile flower in the wind
Holding on as the summer breeze whispers across the prairie
Young and innocent
Alive and full of grace

A flower with wings to fly among the birds
A flower with legs as graceful as a ballerina
A flower with spirit to warm the hearts of those she touched

Releasing the energy of the sun with a rainbow of colors from her blossoming petals

Awakened to a life she will never know
Taken too soon by the cruelty of the eternal gatekeepers

A flower loved by all
Her fragrance was one of a young princess running through the fields of life with promise on the horizon

She would climb the hills to bask in the warm summer sun but tumble to an end no one foresaw

In the end, the importance of life is seen
With every sunrise she provides us compassion
With every sunset the beauty of another day passed

She captured the zest of a thousand children laughing
Her cherubic smile was an infection that spread like a virus

Memories now flash by
Each day a new reminder of what might have been

Reflect on this

Each day she lived was a day complete
Each thought, each tear, each laugh, she is near

The Antique Shop – Original Poem

The dust settles as the creaking door opens slowly letting in the first light of sun
The porcelain lays at bay rested from a night of memories shared

Generations of children floating in the musty air
Laughter is heard through the walls

Each step a new creek
The floor aching for another more immaculate time

The tiny reminders of yesteryear have not aged
They stand pale now but with the help of the shop keeper they will glow once again

In the corner, the beautiful red haired doll is waiting for her mommy
In the cabinet, the Queen’s jewels are ready for the ball
The walls filled with black and white photos and the typewriter stores stories of a much more innocent time

Elder patrons enter with a glow in their eyes
Memories are fountains of youth and these tiny figurines ambassadors to the past
As they touch objects so familiar, their minds race back to the sand box and the corridors of boyhood and girlhood

The springtime of life
The flowers bloom

Up the spiral staircase to the hidden treasures, the true wonders
Stored away behind the cabinet rests the key to all the answers

September 11 (9/11) Music Inspired by or provided comfort during the period the tragic events

Playlist Inspired by September 11, 2001

As we move closer to the tenth anniversary of a day we will never forget in our lifetimes and our children’s, we often take time during an anniversary to add additional reflection on the importance of this tragedy. It was a day that changed our lives and how we view life today.

As an native of the Northeast, the events of that day took on a much more personal meaning, but whether you were in New York or China, it affected each of us in a very personal way. During the period after that, musicians, artists, poets and writers, let their guard down to open up to us and share their personal feelings about the events of that day.

As a tribute to September 11, 2001 and a thank you for all those that let us in their lives, here is a playlist and select videos to help us get through this anniversary together.

You will not be forgotten
