My Endless Love – Original Poem

Rainbow

By Mark A. Leon

Rock a bye baby

Rock a bye off to sleep you go

My beautiful wreck

Brushing my fingers through your hair, it is all so familiar as the nightmares rage on

Your demons chase you to the edge of sanity straight into the glass

Shattered with perfect edges, they cut through my soul

Under the light of a rainbow and cleansed by the rain you swam deep into the great unknown waters of life

Led by confused clarity, you sought escape

As your body disappeared toward the end of that rainbow, I felt you closer than ever before

High atop the balcony I stood gazing away as the world disappeared leaving a painting of the ocean and your silhouette

Tomorrow you will wake and we will create the dream for one more day

Stay tonight for tomorrow you are gone

Far away under the same sky we will dream together

It is a surreal novelette we have written

From the simple gestures to the mountainous climbs

It is a story that began in the roaring 20’s and will last throughout time

Rock a bye baby

Rest your weary eyes

As you drift away into another place, remember you are my endless love

Stay With Me Baby – Original Poem

rain2

Stay with me baby
Stay with me

I know I have been drunk behind the wheel of life one too many times

Too many times for forgiveness
Too many for redemption
No matter what words come out, they are crushed by the actions of self-inflicted wounds

I never meant to pull you into this tornado
With intense winds, I heard your screams
I tried to stop the path of destruction

From town to town, I settled for new faces and places; same mayhem

I swore this was different
I pleaded for a chance

With all the intensity of our passion, I couldn’t hold the grip
So slippery; so wet; the fall to far

You saw, in my eyes, the fight I have been battling
You ignored the red light and drove your heart into mine

Never knowing why, I accepted you on this runaway train
What a ride we had
Carnal intensity
A pain so good

Now I want to brake; To stop and be still for once
I ask you now, to believe that I am stopping the chase and now indulging the dream

It will only give sweet nectar and quench my thirst with you by my side
Look into the weakness of these eyes and accept my unspoken word

I need you to stay with me baby

Just for a Moment, We Were Still – Original Poem

hands1

Just for a moment we were still

Hands touched in that dark movie theater as you leaned you head gently on my shoulder whispering ‘I Love You’ for the first time

Time stood still
A pause on the soundtrack of our lives

Just for a moment we were still; the two of us trapped in our own cinematic romance, seeing the world outside but choosing to remain behind the screen

Stars of a fleeting love story that will never die and transcend time
A world about to crumble; demons lurking in the past and a life about to change
It was there that we found light in that darkness

Meaning defined
I knew I had to let go
Your skin against mine; so soft, so safe, so warm

You had to bleed on your father’s grave to breathe life, finding a relationship once again through his dying mother’s eyes

Like a zombie without a path you wandered
A hall pass to nowhere until that moment
Five, four, three, two, one stop

I see the glimmer in your eyes alone in the back row
For the first time, a sparkle
The movie so familiar; the scene so emotional

In that Garden State a seed was planted and in time a beautiful flower it will be

Just for a moment we were still and life began

May I Have This Dance? – Original Poem

dance2If I approached you, would you ask me to dance?
If held out my arms, would you cry by my side?

That’s all I ask of you

If I laid in bed a little too long, would you rest your head on my chest?
If I breathed the words of sadness, would you heal them with your light?

I ask you now, illuminated by the witness in the sky, will you join me for this ride?
As I wait, fixated on the reflection in your eye, I see the glow excite

Will you be the one I dreamed for all time?
Will you paint my future and fly it on a kite for all the world to see?
And celebrate with a toast as the light of my life

This clumsy fool weakened at the knees stands before you seeing fantasy meet reality

Matchmaker, matchmaker sing us a tune
Shower it with destiny from the delicate ivory of Gershwin
The words of “How Do I Love Thee” ringing from the resting soul of Browning
A harmony so lovely
A tune so familiar, played in my dreams for so long

Matchmaker, matchmaker, escort us to the dance floor
Release us to the unknown on a path of rainbow delight

As I sweep you off of this gravitational pull and thrust you to the sky, will you always be my special one until my last breath should subside?

You’re Not the Only One – Original Poem

lost1You’re not the only one that feels alone at night
Without direction, without a fight
Trapped in your own desires
Frightened by the thought of another person’s fire
Numb to the piercings of poisoned rain

Loneliness dwindles
The light of a new day rekindles

You’re not the only one who thinks to leap without faith
Who cries without feeling the pain
Digging a grave for a funeral never to be attended

You’re not the only one because you have me
Vulnerable and humble; blessed at the gift before me

You inspire color
Give meaning to this fantasy
My words I give to you
My life I invite to share

You’re not the only one out there minimized by space; corrupted by the hurt; pained by the future

hands1Never more will you be lost
Dump the weight of that back pack of past lies
Feel the burden lifted as you take my hand
Feel the energy of the sun penetrate the surface of your pores as you feel alive once again

Run with me baby; run with the gazelles
Let’s take our direction to new heights
Together in love

Under a Carolina Sunset – Original Poem

She wore that yellow sundress
Basking in the Carolina sunset
A sky of orange and red streaming to the notes of a Bach

Not a care or a worry
Just her love waiting in the distance with his denim and a glimmer and a place she calls home
No more goodbye in those sparkling eyes

Dreaming of cornfields and lilies, this little girl has become an angel
A beauty for the ages; a porcelain sculpture with no imperfection

With her boots in the air she dances to the rhythm of the country
With the memories of ma and pa playing music on the porch, she smiles

They smile back in a warm embrace; reminding her to always look to the stars and know

The horizon is limitless
A world without boundary; a life without limit; a harmony as strong as her heartbeat

The spirit of America rings strong
Powerful and free

flower2Swept by the wind; tickled by the flower petals brushing against the soft curves of her legs
Hair flowing as swiftly as the doves above

She falls, letting gravity pull her down to a bed of green grass

In a deep sigh she reflects on a life of good intentions

Now she closes her eyes and visualizes a world of hopes and dreams wrapped in ribbons and bows

Love Letter from the Grave

I won’t be there with you this morning to see the heaviness of your eyes as you smile and hesitantly give me the first morning kiss.  The feel of my fingers brushing through each strand of your soft hair was my heaven.  I am saddened to know that you are releasing tears alone in your quiet safe place.  The place we called our getaway.

I want these words to dry those eyes.

I write this letter to bring happiness to your sadness; direction to your wandering and comfort to your anxiety.  I am here with you.  Close your eyes my love.  Close them real tight.  Can you feel my breath against your skin?  I can see the shivers running down your spine.  That is me.  I won’t speak to you again, but I will protect you.

When the storms come racing in, I will keep you dry.  Dry and safe from the dangers that lie ahead.

I always promised you a lifetime together.  I unfortunately, had to break that promise.  It wasn’t in my control.

Still no regrets.  I lived every day giving all I had for you.  I loved you unconditionally and as many times as I told you, I wish I said it more.

Each day, I wrote a different reason why I loved you.

lost1In the back of the house buried two feet under the oak, I kept that list.  Cherish it and embrace it and if you listen closely you can hear my voice telling you each one of those reasons.

I am thankful that I found you; that you accepted me into your world

Each day was an adventure and a challenge, but it opened my eyes to the wonders of life

You became my compassion, my passion, my heart and my soul

A believer in my dreams and the plane that took me to the clouds

I am forever grateful as I journey to this unknown place for having you until my last breath

I want to write forever so you always have my thoughts

No material value, no mementos needed for us.  We were spirits free and unchained

With the wind at our back and the sun to warm our skin, we saw the world from our perspective.  We saw a world of peace and beauty.

That, my love, is eternal

Eternal as the love we continue to share.

Goodbye for now until you open your eyes in the morning and a bird soar across the sun.

You will know I am with you.
