I would like to apologize in advance to my audience who were expecting a 140 character blog. Unfortunately, though I may come close, will not be able to meet that restriction.
Some see Twitter as an evolutionary cultural change in our global society in the area of communications. Some, a giant waste of time. As a user of Twitter with real and fake accounts spreading the gospel of immediate gratification, I can comfortably speak about my observations.
Here we go:
- Twitter is a phenomenal tool for spreading the news of celebrity death like no other. Even if you never saw one of their movies or heard their songs, you feel that compulsive need to spread the wealth and share the news immediately until it is trended all the way to Jupiter. #RIP(INSERTNAME)
- The foundation of Twitter has given an avenue for drunk sports fans around the world to bitch and moan about their teams in real time. It isn’t a bad call by the referee unless 3000 people tweet about it in 15 seconds. Bravo. Everyone give yourself a virtual wave.
- Tweet chats. I don’t get it. I’ve witnessed it and even took part in one or two, but I don’t get it. I am sitting at a conference or on a Live Web event and I am tweeting other registrants during the event about the event. #Anythingtodistractmefrompayingattentiontothespeaker
- National “ANYTHING” Day – The growth of national days for anything and I mean anything is an epidemic. There is a Rhubard Day, Hug a Ghost Day, Pug Day and the list goes on. Many days have four or more things now. As long as there is a national day, there will be a trend at some point in the day. Today is National Freedom Day and National
Baked Alaska Day (This will work out well that we don’t offend those in slavery and bondage around the work because they don’t have Twitter.) – National Days Website
- Award Show Fever!!!! – I now never have to watch an award show again. I used to wait until the end and then check the list of winners. Now I just have to see who is trending and there you go #AndTheWinnerIs.
- Anything Taylor Swift or Kim Kardashian does.
Now I want to briefly talk about the title and purpose of this piece. Twitter has almost led the brigade of laziness, apathy and communication bankruptcy with its insatiable appetite for numbing the ability to experience life. It has boxed our thoughts and emotions into condensed sound bites. For that we thank you.
To have the top trending item today as #MondayMotivation.
Seriously. What are you motivating? Who are you motivating?
Let us take ourselves seriously for a moment and think about your audience and your value system. Does #MondayMotivation really fit your model?
Now I am going to edit, publish and tweet this out.
